The Sixties and the Samba Craze

We all know what the teens and very young adults were up to in the sixties:  Beatles, dropping out, tuning in, etc.  But what about the 30 and 40 somethings?  The sixties was also the time of the Samba craze in the US.  And, one of the best samples of Samba music has to be Astrud Gilberto.

Of course, she is most famous for her Girl from Ipanema hit, but that is so overplayed.  Try a few others by Astrud and be transported by her smooth tones and unique style.  Then I have posted Ipanema last for you.

Enjoy!

  2. G'day Raven. I haven't heard The Girl From Ipanema for such a long time. I'm sad to say that I wouldn't have remembered her name, but the song was very popular when I was growing up. She has a great voice. I enjoyed all of them. Take care. Liz...

  3. Suz, this reminds me of the big stereo console in my childhood home. I remember we used to listen to the Tijuana Brass as well. :)

  5. G'day Raven. So good to meet you also. Thank you for your comments on my blog. Our winters here can be cold, though not like over your way I would imagine and yes the summers can be scorching hot. The hottest it has been here where we live was 47 degrees, that was a couple of years ago on the day we had the terrible Black Saturday bushfires and 170 people died. Usually it gets to about 45 in our area of Australia, though in the desert regions it is probably hotter. Keep at that sewing machine, you will win the battle. Gollies are black dolls, they used to be called Gollywogs,in the dictionary they are referred to as a doll that looks like a little man (or woman) with a black face, large white eyes and spiky black hair but I was told once that it's not appropriate to call them Gollywogs and that they are now just Gollies !! I can't think of a better way to describe them to you.Anyway, great to talk to you. Look forward to reading more of your blogs.Take care. Liz...
